The first Lake Run at Empire Days in Cumberland was a big success.
Seventy participants were involved and many volunteers helped to make it a great day.
Organizers were very pleased to have such a broad spectrum of participants involved, from the serious runner like Roslyn Smith, who just did the Boston Marathon this year, to the Clarks, a retired couple who walked the whole five kilometres hand-in-hand.
As well, many kids, moms with strollers and whole families signed up.
Thanks to Quality Foods, who provided water bottles and granola bars to all the participants. Also thanks to Walmart, Canadian Tire, Caffe Amantes, Comox Recreation Centre and other individuals who donated draw prizes for the participants.
There was a prize of an iPod touch to the participant who raised the most sponsorship money, and the winner was Annette Jensen, a volunteer at the Pregnancy Care Centre, who raised more than $700.
All together, we made $3,386.07, part of which will be donated to the Cumberland Recreation Institute’s Moms and Tots group.
