First local baby of the new decade arrived New Year’s evening at Penticton Regional Hospital

Penticton Regional Hospital's first baby of the New Year, a boy, arrived Wednesday evening

Penticton’s first baby of the new decade came into the world at 7:24 p.m. New Year’s Day at Penticton Regional Hospital.

At this point, the only information being released by Interior Health (IH) at the family’s request, is that it was a boy.

IH’s first New Year’s baby was a girl, born at 6:02 a.m. Wednesday at Kelowna General Hospital, weighing five pounds, three ounces, a first child for Kelsey and Brian McCune of Kelowna.

Brian, a DJ for a Kelowna radio station, is originally from Penticton according to IH.

Revelstoke had the second New Year’s baby born at an Interior Health hospital.

A girl was born at the Queen Victoria Hospital at 7:04 a.m. Wednesday

The IH region includes East Kootenay, Kootenay-Boundary, Okanagan and Thompson Cariboo Shuswap.

B.C.’s first baby of 2020 was born at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster.

The girl, named Clarita, arrived at 12:01 a.m., weighing four pounds and 10 ounces, according to the Fraser Health Authority.
