Despite tears and bruising, police say a five-year-old boy is safe and sound after being hit by a 2014 Honda Civic along Moilliet Street Saturday at 1:43 p.m.
According to Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman the boy was waiting at a bus stop with his parents when he saw family friends across the street.
“He (the boy) ran across the street to them and a northbound vehicle coming down Moilliet Street didn’t have time to stop and collided with the child,” explained Foreman.
He said the boy was thrown “a small distance” and the accident attracted a crowd of people.
Police say the boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but did sustain bruising to the ribs and a possible fracture.
Foreman said witnesses reported the vehicle was driving the speed limit and the boy was not on a crosswalk.
He called it “an unavoidable collision.”
No charges or sanctions have been laid against the driver of the vehicle.
Both the driver, and the boy who was hit, are Nanaimo residents.
