A tow truck engulfed in flames provided a spectacle for residents of a Langford apartment complex Sunday morning.
The vehicle was consumed by fire before firefighters were able to knock down the flames. Several people photographed images of the blaze, which reportedly damaged as many as nine other vehicles parked nearby.
“There was a lot of heat radiating off of it,” said Langford fire chief Bob Beckett, noting that vehicles contain plenty of plastic and other combustible materials that would have fueled the fire after it started.
The Langford fire department was called at 11:06 a.m. Their next step is to determine the source of ignition and the initial fuel source. The tow truck driver reported hearing a “pop,” which might indicate a fuel leak under the vehicle, Beckett said.
Once fire inspectors look over the vehicle, it will be given a mechanical inspection.
