Flaming garbage had to be dumped on Fraser Highway

Garbage truck operator noticed smoke coming from the back

Garbage caught fire in the back of a garbage truck forcing the operator to dump the flaming waste in the middle of Fraser Highway in Aldergrove Thursday afternoon.

Around 12:15 p.m., a garbage company must have unknowingly picked up garbage that had smoking materials in it.

“The driver noticed smoke coming from the back of the truck,” said Township district fire chief Russ Jenkins. “It’s protocol to dump their load so the truck doesn’t catch on fire.” The driver dumped the load in the 26000 block of Fraser Highway.

Township firefighters arrived on scene and had to douse the garbage fire.

The fire department did manage to keep traffic flowing on the busy highway. The mess was cleaned up this afternoon by a separate operator.
