As of Monday, the Cariboo Regional District’s Emergency Operations Centre reported that the flooding and high-water levels that have plagued the Chilcotin region since the middle of May have stabilized.
The EOC reported that the evacuation alert initiated May 31 for two ranches in the Chilko-Newton Road — Bailey Bridge area west of Bull Canyon remains in effect. The water levels there have receded but access to the two ranches remains compromised due to the flooding of the Bailey Bridge approach.
In the Anahim and Nimpo Lake areas water levels have also been receding and monitoring of the situation continues.
The Horsefly River, says the EOC, has experienced some seasonal high water levels as the river overflowed its banks in the Black Creek area. The EOC reports that no dwellings at this time are threatened.
Residents are reminded to use extreme caution at this time of year near, on, or around waterways as a result of elevated water levels and rapid currents. Rivers, streams and creeks throughout the region are still swollen and should be considered hazardous.
Last week the B.C. River Forecast Centre ended its high streamflow advisory for the rivers and lakes in the Chilcotin region.
