Food bank needs community support

Hope is participating in national Kraft Food For Families contest

Hope Food Bank is one of 20 locations in B.C. that has been chosen to participate in Kraft Food for Families this year.

Donations made by the program not only help rural food banks stock their shelves, but also assist in covering operational expenses.

“It’s an easy way for people to feel like they’re doing something without actually having to go into their own bank accounts,” said Kim Paolini, with Hope Community Services.

Each time a person enters their name and email on kraftfoodforfamilies.ca, $0.50 will be donated to the food bank of their choice. The location with the most names in their region by Dec. 31 will receive an additional $5,000 donation.

Paolini said the money raised for Hope Food Bank will be used to help purchase new energy-efficient freezers next year and possibly a new fridge.

Hope Community Services is currently gearing up for its Holly Days campaign and looking for monetary donations to help pay for Christmas hampers.

Last year, 370 hampers were handed out to homes in Hope and 40 in Boston Bar. The program costs about $20,000 annually to run.
