The former executive director of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce has been charged with criminal harassment, on top of the assault charge he was already facing.
Const. Ian MacDonald said David D. Hull was arrested on June 24 after a man reported to the front counter of the Abbotsford Police Department, saying he had received text messages and emails that were of concern from a particular individual.
The criminal harassment charge was sworn Friday in Abbotsford provincial court.
MacDonald said an offence of that nature could apply to either the content of the messages or the quantity – or both.
“You’re talking about unwanted emails, and the content would be disturbing or cause a nuisance or cause some fear on the part of the recipient,” he said.
Hull was previously charged with assault after his first arrest on May 28. On that date, police received a report from a 35-year-old woman that an assault had taken place.
On June 5, the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce announced in a press release that Hull was being suspended without pay, but did not provide further explanation.
On June 23, Hull tendered his resignation to the chamber, of which he had been executive director since 2005.
Hull was slated to appear yesterday in Abbotsford provincial court for an arraignment hearing on the assault charge.
