A former Revelstoke resident is facing charges in Alberta of uttering death threats to Brandon Cruickshank.
Court documents obtained by the Times Review allege that sometime on Oct. 13-14, 2010, in or around Cold Lake, Alta., Dawson Allan Lindsay threatened to kill Brandon Cruickshank.
In the early morning of Oct. 14 Revelstoke’s Jimmy Armilotta, 27, and Fil Kedzior, 21, were found dead in a residence in Cold Lake after a neighbour reported a man with a gun outside the remote property in the early morning hours.
Cruickshank was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree murder. In January he pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains in custody.
A fourth former Revelstoke resident was detained by the Alberta RCMP for questioning and was subsequently released. RCMP said he was a witness in the case.
Lindsay, 27, is charged with breach of undertaking and uttering death threats. The court documents allege that on Oct. 13 or 14 he forced Dezarae Bassett to go his parents’ house, which Bassett had the “lawful right to abstain from doing.” The document states he directed threats of violence at her brother.
Brandon Cruickshank and Dezarae Bassett are brother and sister.
An Alberta RCMP spokesperson said they couldn’t comment on whether Dawson Lindsay was present at the scene of the shooting. They cited ongoing legal proceedings.
However, Alberta RCMP did confirm that Lindsay and Bassett were in an “on and off” relationship.
The second charge against Lindsay alleges that at the same time he spoke to Bassett on the phone and threatened to kill Cruickshank.
A court clerk in St. Paul, Alta., said Lindsay’s case was scheduled for trial in August.
Cruickshank’s case is slated for a four-day preliminary hearing from Aug. 22-25 in St. Paul, Alta.
Lindsay also faced charges in Revelstoke court for allegedly contacting Bassett on Nov. 1, 2010, which he had promised not to do. Crown prosecutor Greg Koturbash stayed the charges earlier this month because of the ongoing case in Alberta, he told the Times Review.
