She vows to hold listening events and make voting important

Debora Soutar has announced her intention to run for city council in the October 20 election.

The past Rotary Club of Chilliwack president was surrounded by friends and family at her home when she made her intentions known this week, and joined by fellow leaders of the Rotary Club, the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve Society and P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Soutar, a retired silviculturist, is a volunteer and educator with the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

Citing the need for Chilliwack to have “a significant turnout” at the polls in October “if our needs and concerns are to be considered by all levels of government,” Soutar stated that she favoured “brainstorming” ways to make voting recognized as a significant Chilliwack concern.

Soutar plans to host “listening gatherings to hear what citizens consider most important” and to share her strong feelings about how we can keep Chilliwack a place “where we love to live.”
