SURREY — Surrey’s former city manager Murray Dinwoodie has been appointed to TransLink’s board of directors by Peter Fassbender, the minister responsible for the transit authority.
“During my years as city manager for the City of Surrey, I gained a deep understanding of the significant role the transportation system plays in the Metro region,” said Dinwoodie.
He said he is eager to use his knowledge and his experience working across communities, to assist the region, TransLink, and the mayors’ council to “chart a path moving forward.”
Dinwoodie, who is a registered professional engineer, served as Surrey’s city manager from 2006 to 2014. Before that, he served as the general manager of planning and development from 1998 to 2006.
He’s worked more than 30 years in local government. During his eight years as city manager, he sat as a member of the Metro Vancouver Regional Administrators Advisory Committee, which addresses pan-regional issues and opportunities.
He has served on the board of the Surrey City Development Corporation and was a founding member of the Surrey Housing and Homelessness Society.
Jim Chu, Vancouver Police Department’s former boss, was also named to the board.
“Mr. Chu and Mr. Dinwoodie have extensive experience, not only at the civic level but at the regional, provincial and national levels as well,” said Fassbender in a release.
“I am confident their contributions will be invaluable to the board as TransLink works to secure the confidence of the region’s taxpayers, both in relation to its fiscal management and its delivery of the transportation systems so important to the region.”
Barry Forbes, chair of the TransLink board of directors, said he’s delighted to welcome the duo.
“Their expertise, insight, and sterling record of public service will strengthen the board’s ability to serve this region.”
