Fort St. James RCMP report

There were a number of incidents of note from July 10-16 in Fort St. James.

July 10, at 5:31 a.m., RCMP responded to a report of a possible stabbing at the Stuart Lake Hospital.

An unknown male had come for treatment of a one-inch laceration between his thumb and index finger on one hand.

The victim reported he had been sleeping when he woke up to someone choking him.

The suspect then reportedly grabbed a pair of scissors, and during the course of their altercation, cut the victim.

The suspect was known to the victim and the RCMP subsequently located the suspect at the Petro Canada gas station.

The suspect was then brought in for questioning but the victim declined pressing charges against the suspect.

On July 10 at 1:51 p.m., RCMP responded to a report of a domestic dispute. Upone arrival, police found a female victim had been assaulted. The victim was eight months pregnant at the time of the incident.

While the victim declined to cooperate with RCMP, the suspect was located at Cottonwood Park and subsequently taken into custody.

RCMP have recommended a charge of assault in the incident and the male suspect is waiting for a court appearance.

Also on July 10, at 4:30 a.m., RCMP attended the scene of a single vehicle collision at 5 km on the North Road.

Someone driving a company vehicle hit a deer. The vehicle, a 2013 Ford Pickup, sustained serious damage after a deer reportedly jumped out of the bush in front of the vehicle, giving the driver no chance to stop.

July 12 at 9:45 a.m., RCMP attended Suspender’s Convenience Store after the manager reported having images of a man stealing liquor on their security camera.

RCMP then reviewed the recordings, and found two suspects were involved, a male and a female. The female was identified by RCMP, while they are still trying to identify the male suspect.

The value of the liquor reportedly stolen in the incident was $25.85.

RCMP are waiting for prosecutors to approve charges before serving the female her notice to appear in court.

On July 12 at 5:33 p.m., RCMP attended the Fields store in downtown Fort St. James in response to a report of an intoxicated female.

The suspect was identified, and RCMP at the scene, discovered the woman was with her aunt, who was also reportedly intoxicated.

The suspect was also identified as being bound by a probation order not to drink or be intoxicated.

Upon being taken into custody and searched, marijuana was also found on her person.

RCMP have recommended charges of breaching a probation order and possession of a controlled substance.

On July 13 at 5:16 p.m., RCMP responded to a call of a male and female hitting each other on a park bench in front of the Royal Bank.

RCMP attended, and took both into custody for causing a disturbance. Both suspects were reportedly intoxicated at the time.

The female was held until sober and released on a promise to appear. RCMP are recommending charges of assault against the woman.

The male was believed to be a victim in the incident and was released.

On July 13, at 5:44 p.m., a female called RCMP to report her parents were arguing and the woman had reportedly scratched the male’s face during the dispute.

The female suspect was then located and arrested for assault.

The woman was held in custody until sober and released on a promise to appear in court in October.

On July 14, at 8:35 p.m., RCMP were called to a residence in Binche.

A woman reported her boyfriend would not let her leave the home.

During their investigation, RCMP also were told the male suspect had reportedly struck the woman during the course of the altercation.

The male was then arrested and will be in court to face charges of assault later this year.

July 15 at 11:45 p.m., RCMP out on patrol noticed a male who was known to be a person who is prohibited Canada-wide from driving exiting a vehicle. It was unclear at the time if the man was the actual driver of the vehicle, but not much later, the man was seen actually driving the vehicle.

RCMP also determined the plates on the vehicle were expired.

The suspect initially pulled over, but then took off and evaded police.

RCMP located the vehicle at a residence, however were unable to locate the suspect when a person at the home would not admit them.

The vehicle was then impounded and RCMP are recommending charges of driving while prohibited under the Criminal Code and evading police.

July 16 at 4 p.m., RCMP attended an accident in front of Hops Cold Beer and Wine store.

A Chevrolet Silverado had reportedly backed into a Chevrolet Impala, damaging the Impala.

The driver and the passenger of the Impala were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

No charges were being pursued in relation to the incident and the investigation was turned over to the insurance company.

On July 16 at 9:30 p.m., RCMP stopped the driver of a grey Chevrolet Silverado when he was observed spinning the truck’s tires and spraying gravel in the Cottonwood Parking lot.

The driver was determined to have only a Class 7 driver’s licence.

The vehicle was impounded and the driver was issued a ticket for driving without due care and stunting.

Two passengers were also in the vehicle with the driver, a violation of the Class 7 conditions and open liquor was found in the vehicle as well.
