Foul play is suspected after human remains were found near the summit of the Malahat on the morning of March 3.
The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation because the body was discovered in a provincial area and foul play is suspected.
An autopsy has been scheduled for later in the week.
Cowichan Search and Rescue volunteers were called to the scene Friday morning to assist in the recovery of the body, which was located down a steep embankment.
