Four new COVID cases in Castlegar last week

Cases continue to decline in West Kootenay

New cases of COVID-19 continue to decline in the West Kootenay after spiking in April.

The Nelson local health area, which includes Salmo and parts of the Slocan Valley, continues to lead the way with 10 new cases for the week of May 2 to 8, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control.

Nelson also has the highest total cases in the West Kootenay with 165 total cases since the pandemic began.

For the May 2 to 8 time period, Castlegar and Trail had four new cases each while Creston and the Arrow Lakes region, which includes Nakusp, each added six new cases.

As of the end of April, Castlegar had only seen a total of 40 COVID-19 cases throughout the pandemic.

From May 7 to 13, there were 22 new cases in the Kootenay Boundary health service area, for a total of 454 since the beginning of the pandemic.
