Four rescued after getting lost near Sooke Potholes

The group was hiking towards Leechtown area, but after making its way past Boneyard Lake, became disoriented and eventually got lost

Four Victoria residents were rescued on Saturday night after getting lost near Sooke Potholes for more than five hours, police say.

The group, two men and two women, were hiking towards Leechtown area, but after making their way past Boneyard Lake, they became disoriented and eventually got lost, said Sooke RCMP Cpl. Dawn Gilhen.

Two 911 calls were sent out around 5 p.m., which prompted a search and rescue effort between RCMP, Sooke Search and Rescue, Sooke Fire, as well as Saanich and Victoria police.

The hikers were found safe and sound on a trail near Boneyard Lake around 10 p.m., Gilhen said, adding one of the men was slightly injured but didn’t require medical assistance.
