Free COVID-related counselling on offer from Chilliwack Community Services

'We're all dealing with big feelings in one form or another,' says Chilliwack Community Services rep (CCS)

Chilliwack Community Services has started providing free counselling services for anyone struggling with COVID-19.

“We recognize that during these times of huge adjustments across all sectors of our community, we wanted to offer something tangible and easy for people to access,” said Helen Edwards, director of therapy services for Chilliwack Community Services (CCS).

This is not a crisis line, but rather therapeutic support over the phone from registered clinical counsellors with specific training in trauma-informed practice.

“We’re all dealing with big feelings in one form or another, and with physical connections being so limited right now, it’s important that our community steps up in ways that can fill those gaps of connections and support.”

Providing clinical support services to Chilliwack residents to address mental health challenges during the pandemic “is important and like many others, we are responding to that need,” Edwards said.

People can get support for “anxiety, depression, loneliness, grief and loss while living and working through this pandemic, as well as talking through job loss and future uncertainty, talking to kids about COVID-19 and anything else people are struggling with during these uncertain times,” according to the press release from CCS.

Counsellors will be available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The COVID support is available by phone and video. Referrals are not needed, and the service is open to all. Email covidsupport@comserv.bc.ca, or phone 604-798-5105.
