Free energy-efficient products offered to lower-income Castlegar households

Products include light bulbs, shower heads, faucet aerators, weatherstripping, water pipe insulation

Lower income households in Castlegar have the opportunity to access some free energy-efficient products thanks to a partnership between FortisBC and the Castlegar IRIS program.

Available products include energy saving light bulbs, water efficient shower heads, faucet aerators, exterior door weatherstripping, hot water pipe insulation and LED night lights.

In addition, some homes may qualify for an Energy Star certified fridge or gas furnace or insulation for walls, attics or crawl spaces.

The objective of the program is to help people reduce their monthly utility bills.

Both home owners and renters can apply, but renters must include a landlord consent form with their application.

To qualify, you must be over the age of 18, own or rent a detached house, duplex, townhouse, mobile home or basement suite, and have a Fortis residential electricity account.

“There is no catch, no sales, no pressure,” says IRIS coordinator Sandi McCreight. “This community partnership benefits you, the tenant/landlord, and IRIS for helping promote the program.”

For more information or to obtain an application, call IRIS at 250-608-0706.
