Enthusiastic cheers could be heard at the Nechako Valley Exhibition Grounds in Vanderhoof where renowned motocross pro riders performed eye-popping exhilarating stunts.

The Global FMX series attracted large crowds Friday, August 20 and Saturday, August 21, featuring Vanderhoof’s own Luke Wheeler and Jeff Fehr.

Also jumping into the air were four other pro riders from across Western Canada, including Lance McMorran, Jordan Gledhill, Chris Nolan and Dylan Foulston.

Two youth riders from Kelowna and Prince George rounded out the shows clocking in at two hours.

“Normally this would be our fall fair weekend,” said Carolyn Leigh, executive director of the Nechako Valley Exhibition Society.

While COVID-19 restrictions were lifted later this year, it was not enough time to finish organizing for what would have also been the 55th annual Nechako Valley Exhibition Fall Fair.

“We couldn’t run a fall fair, but we already had Global FMX booked to show up at the fair,” Leigh said.

“While we couldn’t get all the events running in conjunction, we thought that at least with the lifting of restrictions, we could put on a show for the community of some sort.”

Extra seating was made available, and Leigh added that they were in close communication with Northern Health as well as the RCMP.

“We were just really hoping to give people something to enjoy in a safe way during this time.”
