Free swimming launches pool reopening Jan. 6

Oak Bay pool closed and emptied to repair a leak set to reopen Jan. 6

Free swimming launches the reopening of the Oak Bay aquatic centre Jan. 6.

Oak Bay pool was emptied to find the source of a leak discovered Nov. 29.

“Patrons noticed the pool was colder than usual, when we looked into it there was water leaving the pool and new water coming in that wasn’t heating,” Barclay said.

The damage was discovered and repaired. With the pool drained and dry, they took the time to do regular maintenance, eliminating the need for another closure in June.

Recreation Oak Bay invites everyone to celebrate the reopening with adult lengths swim from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., an Everyone Welcome swim at 6:30 p.m., Length and Leisure from 9:30 to 11 p.m. or at the Late-night Swim from 11 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Regular pool schedules, including lessons, resume Jan. 7.
