Funding increase for marsh fountain passed

Council agrees on $8,000 increase for fountain installation

The District of 100 Mile House council passed a resolution to increase funds to the 100 Mile Marsh Fountain installation on June 28.

The budget of $17,000 has been increased to $25,000 to upgrade the capital plan for the project.

The previous budget was a quotation for a two- or three-horsepower fountain and electrical installation.

Pondpro Canada LTD, which is carrying out the construction, noted the money the District set aside for the original fountain plan was too small for the intended effect council wanted for the marsh off Highway 97.

The budget increase will allow for Pondpro to install a five-horsepower fountain and construction will begin in the coming months.

100 Mile Mayor Mitch Campsall says he is excited for what the fountain will add to both the community and how attractive it will be from a tourism aspect.

It will bring something more to the community and it will be a great tourism addition.

People will see it as they pass through town and they might be inclined to make a stop to see it.”

The upgraded fountain will have a longer lasting top and bottom ball bearings.

In addition, it will have an environmentally friendly oil-filled motor with a hard-face internal mechanical seal and external lip scale for protection against leaks.

It will also meet with current Canadian Standards Association and UL safety standards.

The fountain is set to run for long hours of the day and will have lights installed for night viewing.

The project completion date is not yet set.
