Some much-needed infrastructure upgrades will be done without going back to Enderby taxpayers.
Council has approved the redirection of $33,100 in unused surplus funds to cover extraordinary water expenditures.
“We are trying to use our resources wisely,” said Coun. Brad Case, adding that the goal is to stay within the city’s budget.
The $33,100 will come from water projects that will not be done in 2013, including the testing of backflow prevention devices, asset management and a back-up power design.
The emergency repairs that will occur are the Shuswap well pump failure ($18,900) and a water break on Northern Crescent ($14,200).
During the year, the city experiences extra costs due to equipment not working properly.
“Although the current water budget provides for these types of expenditures, it cannot handle the quantity of major repairs that have occurred during the year,” said Jennifer Bellamy, chief financial officer.
“The following major repairs will need to be funded through surplus in order to avoid a deficit in the water fund.”
