They’re still adding up how much the bids at last week’s auction at the Penticton Art Gallery total, but it looks like it was a big night.

This was the 41st instalment of the annual fundraiser, which supports children’s and educational programming throughout the year, like the Young@Art after-school program.

Along with unique artworks and other items, like a guitar signed by the Paul Rodgers band, guests were treated to a meal catered by Chef Instead, beers from Cannery Brewing, and wine from Bench 1775.

“I would say it was a success. The Maud Lewis piece sold, that was definitely a big winner for us,” said Petra Höller, gallery spokesperson. The piece, Covered Bridge in Winter, was painted by the popular American artist sometime around 1965-66.

“I’m very happy it sold to someone from the South Okanagan, so it is going to stay in the area,” said Höller, who added the turnout was great.

“We filled every single seat. In fact, we had to set up separate seats because there were so many people wanting to attend, so that was really fantastic. The guests had a wonderful time,” she said, praising the volunteers, who helped make the evening roll.

“It just wouldn’t happen without them. Lots of hard-working people putting in the time to help support our mission,” she said.
