More than 270 students took part in graduation ceremonies at Selkirk Friday, April 26

Family, friends, faculty and dignitaries packed the gymnasium at the Selkirk College campus to honour the achievements of the graduating class of 2013 on Friday, April 26.

Cathy Mercer, director of student and enrolment services/registrar, was the master of ceremonies and said over 770 students were eligible for graduation this year, with more than 270 taking part in convocation and receiving their credentials personally.

Selkirk president Angus Graeme began the proceedings by thanking and honouring local First Nations, on whose traditional territory the college operates, before wishing the graduates well with their future endeavours.

This year, an Honorary Diploma in Business Administration was presented to local business woman, Darlene Kalawsky and a Distinguished Educator award was presented to Dr. Gordon Turner.

Anthony Crosfield, a decorated and internationally acclaimed hairdresser, received the Distinguished Alumnus award and also received a standing ovation for his address to the graduating class, which was full of humour and wisdom.

Tessa Munro received the Student Professionalism award from Katie Weir before Lauren Zanier, valedictorian, wrapped things up for the formal proceedings.

Congratulations to all of the graduates of 2013.
