Volunteer View Royal firefighters quickly put out a brush fire that flared up Friday afternoon next to the Galloping Goose trail, near Stancil Lane.
At about 4:30 p.m. a nearby resident called 911 after hearing crackling and seeing heat waves rising up from a patch of brush surrounded by residential homes next to the Galloping Goose.
View Royal Fire Rescue arrived shortly after and hit the blaze with water and foam, extinguishing the fire and removing the threat of spreading.
There is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
