Games needs volunteers

More volunteers sought for B.C. Winter Games in Greater Vernon Feb. 23 to 26

With the B.C. Winter Games in Greater Vernon less than a month away, organizers are still looking for more volunteers.

About 2,000 are needed for the event Feb. 23 to 26, and so far about 1,565 have registered.

Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

Accommodation: dorm hosts and dorm site preparation.

Ceremonies: participant marshalling and entertainment stand ins for the rehearsal Feb. 22 from 4 to 9 p.m.

Food services: boxed lunches and participant meals

Protocol: medal presenters

Security: special events and traffic control

Transportation: luggage handlers, courtesy cars and bus guides

Administration: environment and warehouse

Communications: switchboard (evening shifts)

Promotions: news service and photographers (must have Photoshop experience)

Registration and results: participant accreditation and results centre

Special events: holding area and participant special events

The Games will involve more than 2,000 participants from across B.C. (athletes, coaches and officials) in 16 sports.
