Crews were called out Friday morning in Abbotsford to deal with a spill at the McDonald’s restaurant on Whatcom Road.
A garbage truck that was lifting a garbage container at the restaurant blew its hydraulic line before 8:30 a.m., spraying bio-degradable vegetable-based fluid across the parking lot.
A pump truck was called out to handle the spill, and crews have dumped sand across the parking lot.
It has not yet been confirmed whether a nearby multi-vehicle collision – at the westbound Whatcom Road on-ramp onto Highway 1 – is related to the incident.
Initial reports indicate that three vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction rear-ender collision, and it is not known if they had driven through the parking and had oil on their tires that caused them to slide, or whether other vehicles had spread the fluid, making the road slick.
