The 17th annual edition of Qualicum Beach Seedy Saturday is coming up Feb. 2, where more than 2,000 people are expected to attend as they ready their gardens for spring.

Running from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre (747 Jones St., Qualicum Beach), the local Seedy Saturday event includes more than 70 participants, with a variety of vendors, a pair of speakers, the popular Seed Swap, Milner Garden’s Shoots with Roots children’s program and more.

Organizers usually expect between 2,500 and 2,700 people to attend the event, which is one of many separate Seedy Saturday events that take place across the country.

For Qualicum Beach’s upcoming event, the them is “Seeding the Future,” and includes speakers Carolyn Herriot and Larry Church.

Herriot’s talk will be on eco-nutrition: the future of food, while Church will speak on mason bees through the seasons.

Vendors at the event will include seed companies, nurseries, growers and others with garden-related items.

The Town of Qualicum Beach will also have a truck on site to collect pesticides and herbicides.

There will also be door prizes and a raffle.

Admission to the event is by donation.
