Randall Garrison, Esquimalt and Juan de Fuca MP, tabled petitions that called on parliament to save 81 southern resident killer whales.
“I received overwhelming support from my riding and I am still hoping to receive a similar response from the government given that there is new money in Budget 2014 to implement recovery strategies under the Species At Risk Act.” said Garrison, in a press release.
“Vancouver Islanders recognize the devastating impact that loss of these magnificent creatures will have on our local economy, tourism, and of course on, our ecosystem … The government now has 45 calendar days to respond to these petitions and we hope to see action soon.”
Garrison explained he hopes the government will listen to constituents and pledged the NDP will continue to “fight for the action on the environment where decisions are based on empirical evidence, not ideology.”
