Dan Stratton, owner of Gemini Video in Barriere, announced last week that he would be closing his doors.
“When I bought the business two years ago I knew this day was coming,” said Stratton, “But I thought it would take four or five years, not two.”
He went on to say that renting videos in this day and age is no longer a viable way to earn a living, what with high speed internet and NetFlicks, and cable companies.
“When you start having days where all you make is $38, it doesn’t pay to stay open,” said Stratton, “And certainly doesn’t pay to hire staff.”
He noted that all this week, and until everything is sold, the store will be having a clearance sale. The sale will include all sorts of equipment, from ice cream makers to televisions, as well as all the DVD’s and video games.
Stratton says he is planning on taking a short break from business, but intends to reopen a cappuccino shop in the near future.
“There’s no place in Barriere to get a really good cup of coffee,” said the merchant, “I plan to fill that need.”
