Local road crews are gearing up for the flakes to fly and area residents have already hauled out their winter wardrobes.
All that’s missing is the snow, and that’s expected to arrive any time now.
Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist said the cold system that froze the valley last week has passed and as temperatures now hover around freezing, the snow should fly.
It won’t be as snowy as what’s been happening in New York, mind you. But, it may get wintery enough on local hillsides to make for a good start to the ski season.
Big White Ski Resort had a warm and dry start to November, but snow has started to settle on its slopes and more is expected to fall over the weekend.
Approximately 20 centimetres has been forecast for the weekend, which would mean opening day, set for Nov. 27, would go off without a hitch.
The Central Okanagan’s other ski hill, Crystal Mountain, will not operate this season regardless of the weather due to issues arising from last year’s crashed ski lift.
As for the season on a whole, Lundquist said it’s likely to be generally warmer throughout.
