Kelowna customers of Peter’s Your Independent Grocer in Kelowna have the opportunity to get local under-serviced children off the sidelines and playing sport through the Give a Little, Help a Lot campaign and KidSport
Peter’s Your Independent Grocer’s annual in-store fundraising campaign from July 14 to 27 is supporting KidSport Kelowna.
Over the next two weeks, cashiers will be asking customers to donate $2 when they pay. Every dollar donated at checkout will go back to Kelowna children facing financial barriers to their participation in organized sport by way of a KidSport grant.
“Many of the skills that are developed and experiences gained from sport help equip kids with the tools to reach their potential as adults. That is why it is so important for all children to have the opportunity to participate in sport, because of what it provides in addition to the fun,” said Peter Boyd, owner and operator of Peter’s Your Independent Grocer.
The store will host a kick-off BBQ fundraiser at its Capri Centre locationSunday, July 16, from noon to 4 p.m., to help raise awareness and funds for KidSport Kelowna.
Every donation during Give a Little, Help a Lot will have a big impact, highlighted by the over the $1.25 million raised nationally by the campaign for the KidSport mission since 2009.
Those donations have enabled KidSport to assist more than 5,000 additional children play a season of organized sport in communities across the country during that time.
“The reality is that every year there are still many kids who miss out on the opportunity to play sport because families cannot afford the price tag after they cover the cost of their basic necessities. With the support of partners like Peter’s YIG and their customers, we will ensure that fewer kids are left on the sidelines next season and every single child counts,” said Cheryl Browne, chapter chair of KidSport Kelowna.
