With the pool set to open for the 2021 summer season, the Golden Dolphins Swim Club will be back in the water for the first time in nearly two years.

The swim club is excited to bring in two new co-head coaches, Bradley Crocker and Savannah King, to lead the charge for the 2021 season.

The pair have already started land-based training in preparation for the summer ahead, stating that many swimmers have shown enthusiasm for their imminent return to the pool.

Crocker, a PhD kinesiology student at McGill University and former university national swimming champion, says he is looking forward to finally coaching the Golden Dolphins after having to sit out last season due to pandemic-related restrictions.

A self-described competitive person himself, Crocker believes that swimming has many benefits beyond the pool.

“I am super excited to get to work with these swimmers to build solid technical swimming skills, fitness, and passion for the water,” he said.

“Swimming is truly great for anyone as a low-impact full-body workout, as a vehicle to form friendships, and as well it’s one of the few sports with the potential to save your life through drowning prevention.”

King, a two-time Canadian Olympian in distance swimming who holds a Master’s degree in biomechanics, is likewise excited for the upcoming swimming season in Golden.

King feels her experience competing at all levels of swimming provide her with a great perspective to shape and inspire young swimmers.

“I am really looking forward to getting these swimmers re-united with the water for a summer of fun and hard work.”

“Throughout competing for my club team, my university team, and for team Canada I held onto a lot of knowledge which I love passing along to upcoming swimmers as much as I can.”

The Town of Golden council, the recreation services department and the operations department all collaborated to open the pool for the 2021 season.

While registration for all age groups in the Golden Dolphins Swim Club are currently filled, the organization hopes to open more registration space as some pandemic restrictions (potentially) relax later in the summer.
