Only one new case of COVID-19 was identified between Jan. 24 and 30, according to newly updated BC CDC data.

The one case follows a week where eight new cases were identified in the Golden area, which spans communities such as Donald, Nicholson and Parson, bordering on Revelstoke and Invermere.

The rate of new cases has dropped to 0.1-5.0 per population of 100,000, the lowest it can be without reaching zero and is one of the lowest rates of new cases in the Columbia valley during that time frame.

Other neighbouring communities continue to see new cases, with Revelstoke adding 12 new cases in the same time frame and Fernie declaring a community cluster, with 29 new cases.

The Fernie local health area is defined as the region served by the Elk Valley Hospital – including all of the Elk Valley and the South Country.

The Windermere area, which encompasses Invermere, has four new cases.

Numbers can be found on the BC Centre for Disease Control website under BC COVID-19 data. Also available are graphs from the BCCDC Comparisons App showing how each health authority is doing in terms of positive test rates by month.
