The Town of Golden is holding a public hearing on April 9 to discuss the proposed Rezoning Bylaw No. 1319.
Council will receive feedback from anyone wishing to state an opinion on the proposed bylaw, which would change the zoning designation on the old RCMP Detachment building, to allow it to be used for the Golden Alternate School.
The building, located at the corner of 9th Street South and 9th Avenue South, is owned by the school district, and has been vacant since the RCMP moved to their new detachment in 2012.
The school district would like to use the building for their alternate school, which is currently renting space inside a BC Hydro owned building, but the zoning designation is for Community Care and Resource. For the school to move in, the designation must be changed to Community Education and Culture.
The school district was considering the possibility of using the building for the school in October of 2012 (when the RCMP were in the process of moving out). Superintendent of Schools, Paul Carriere, told the Golden Star that even though a decision had not yet been made, it made sense for the district to use a facility it owned rather than continue renting.
Any member of the public who feels they may be affected by this proposed bylaw is entitled to address council at the public hearing, or send a written submission to clerk@golden.ca.
Submissions will be accepted from now until the close of the public hearing, and must include the name and residential address of the resident.
