New COVID restrictions limit outdoor organized events to 100 people

Athletes will have to wait one more year to race the Golden Ultra, as organizers announced the cancellation of the event, set to be held in a few short weeks in September, due to COVID-19 concerns.

With the recent Public Health Order that limits outdoor organized events to 100 people, with no date of expiry, the TransRockies organization behind the Golden Ultra ,made the difficult decision to wait until 2022.

“Please know that we did everything we could to try to make this event happen and we assure you that the best decision was made around this sudden change,” read an email from organizers.

“The Public Health orders won’t allow events, small communities are once again being impacted by Covid, and we want to protect the safety of our staff and volunteers.”

Even in a non-pandemic year, a three-day race such as the Golden Ultra can be complex to plan.

The 2020 edition of the race was also cancelled due to COVID-19.

At the time of cancellation, the 2021 race was sold out.
