There’s a new bakery in town, with Daley Bread Bakery officially opening its doors on Friday, March 12 for the first time.
Located on 11 Ave S, next to Save On Foods, the bakery will be open Friday through Sunday from noon until 5 p.m. That is, unless they sell out.
Laura Daley, the woman behind the bread and the business, says her first weekend of business has been phenomenal and has sold out prior to closing each day.
“Everyone was super stoked and excited for artisan bread that you can’t get anywhere else,” said Daley.
She says that she saw a need in the community and decided to capitalize.
“Every town, big or small, has a bakery and for me, it’s just such a great to connect with people,” said Daley.
“I know it’s going to be a lot of hard work, but it’s also about the lifestyle for me as well. It’s what I love to do.”
Daley formerly was a pastry chef for CMH, a local heli-ski company. Prior to that, she worked at a local bakery in Banff, which she says she was able to run as her own.

While she says she always had plans to go in business for herself, moving to Golden in the summer of 2019 with the intent of opening a bakery in the mountains, she says that COVID-19 actually sped up the process when CMH shut down last March due to the pandemic.
“Who opens a business during a pandemic? But people are so excited for me and supportive it’s been amazing.”
Daley says she draws inspiration from the women around her and the base of support that women in business have in a town like Golden.
She remembers when she first came to Golden and attended the Community Excellence Awards and marvelled at the amount of women running successful and well-supported businesses in town.
“To be here and do this and not have competition between us women in business, but support, it’s been fantastic.”
Daley says that she will look at expanding the bakery’s hours after the Easter weekend and will be looking to get into cakes and cookies and other goods as well.
