Vernon city council is considering a request to support a study into Greater Vernon governance.

Governance request goes before Vernon council

Vernon council will make a decision on the society's request Jan. 27.

Politicians are being urged to get directly involved in Greater Vernon governance.

The Greater Vernon Governance Society asked Vernon city council Monday to call on the provincial government to fund a study into the pros and cons of a single entity encompassing Vernon, Coldstream and the two electoral areas.

“Most of us want to know the facts so an informed decision can be made,” said Peter Moore, society director.

“We are not proponents of unification but proponents of additional information.”

The society recently collected 3,160 names on a petition supporting a governance study.

Vernon council will make a decision on the society’s request Jan. 27.

The society will make a similar request to Coldstream council Monday night and presentations have been made to the electoral area directors.
