After a last minute attempt to attract more volunteers fell short, members of the fall fair society voted at a meeting on April 23 to cancel the 2014 Grand Forks and District Fall Fair.”We decided to cancel the fall fair because of the lack of volunteers,” said Kelly McIver, secretary/treasurer for the society. “We are an eight member society and eight people cannot operate without volunteers.”McIver said the group has been advertising in the Gazette for the past couple of weeks and her and her husband (Jason McIver, president of the fall fair society) have been talking to people and going on social media.”We’ve done many ads asking for volunteers for the fair this year,” McIver said. “We received a few calls and emails (but not many). Of all the people that helped last year, we only had 10 say yes. You just can’t do it.”McIver said the society needed volunteers to help with the set up of the hall, set up of the tents, the staging, organizing the food vendors, run the cashier booths, and much more. The couple is hoping more residents will join the fall fair society and that the fair can come back in 2015.
