The RBC GranFondo Kelowna cycling event takes place Saturday and that means temporary traffic changes in Vernon and Lake Country.
Riders will cross the start line at 7 a.m. in Kelowna, heading north towards Lake Country with views of Okanagan Lake. After climbing to Predator Ridge, riders pass through Vernon, where the Medio starts at 9 a.m.
Next, riders venture southbound on Highway 97 past Kalamalka and Wood lakes and through Oyama and Winfield . The race wraps up in downtown Kelowna.
Expected hours of peak traffic impact are as follows:
Carrs Landing Road: 7:30 to 9 a.m.
– Commonage Road: 8 to 10 a.m.
– Vernon: 8 to 11 a.m.
– Highway 97 to Oyama: 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon
– Oyama Road: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Spectators are not permitted to stop on the roadways that make up the course, but are encouraged to use various viewing areas.
The following locations are suggested spectator areas:
– 8:30 a.m.: Just over halfway for the GranFondo riders and the start of the Medio at Vernon Army Camp.
– 9:15 a.m.: Close to the 95-kilometre mark, spectators can watch the cyclists go by at George Elliot Secondary School on Bottom Wood Lake Road in Lake Country.
