The next phase of Community Connections funding will be dispersed differently this time around.
“What they decided this time is to use it over a larger number of schools with a whole host of smaller projects,” says Trustee Will Van Osch.
Previously, he adds, greater amounts had been granted to fewer schools, with the result that some larger-scale projects were never completed, so that provincial funding was simply lost.
The first time the funding was offered, an opportunity was missed to the tune of $147,000 for a school gym that never materialized, he explains.
The grants have become smaller since then, but the trustee says that the balance of $30,000 in the second round of this year’s funding will now be shared by 28 schools in the district.
