Over $200,000 in grant money is still available to ranchers and Crown range tenure owners for the improvement and enhancement of grasslands and rangelands.

In the last year, $235,000 worth of grants was pushed into 27 projects across the province to control weeds, rehabilitate damaged riparian areas, protect critical habitats and develop educational programs in schools for better understanding of these areas.

“Grassland and rangeland ecosystems are a very diverse and fragile part of the Basin environment, and are under constant pressure from a variety of sources,” said Rick Allen, Columbia Basin Trust Program Manager for the Environment in a release.

Applications for these grants are open year-round. For further information or to apply, contact program coordinator Steve Byford at 250-426-4315.
