Running in the dark is a New Year’s Eve tradition for nearly 150 locals.

Participants in the annual Run Through Time suit up for a run in the dark and circle Ring Road at the University of Victoria ahead of their New Year’s celebrations.

The run is open to all abilities, with three-kilometre and five-kilometre routes.

Since the Runners of Compassion was formed to organize the event in 1996, the run has donated 2,000 pairs of shoes to the Shoes for Youth program.

“We have raised approximately $30,000 since being involved in the Run Through Time,” says Runners of Compassion founder Rob Reid. “It’s a great family friendly event, very low key, but with a loyal following among our running community, who are all passionate about helping others.”
