After the May 9 election, Fraser-Nicola BC Green Party candidate Art Green could take a step back and relax.
“It’s nice to be able to just not to think about that sort of stuff,” said Green.
Green has not let go of everything. He still has a lot of paperwork to complete, and attends debriefings to talk about what worked and what did not.
“Myself, being the political junkie that I am, I have been following the news quite closely and trying to discredit any bad publicity that we might have created or people think, or what have you,” said Green.
Green said he felt the Greens’ campaign was “run very well.”
“We tripled the number of seats, we now currently hold the balance of power,” said Green. “I was hoping to do a little better in Hope itself. I thought I had a lot more support than what actually showed up in the polls, but we still managed to double our vote count for the riding and that’s always a good thing.”
Being the “political junkie,” Green is now setting his sights on the 2019 federal election. He said he will start organizing “very soon” for the Green Party of Canada with a goal to organize all the electoral district associations and have candidates in place by the end of 2018.
Asked whether he will participate in next year’s municipal elections, Green said he never considered it.
“I’ve never really considered myself to be a municipal politician. A lot of people have actually asked me if I’d be interested in running for council or mayor,” he said.
He said if 25 people put their names on paper and asked Green to represent them, then he would take up the challenge.
