A routine trip into the bush turned into an adventure for a Grindrod senior.
Search and Rescue crews found the 75-year-old man just after 9 a.m. Wednesday 25 kilometres up Zeddergreen Road, which is six kilometres north of Grindrod. He had last been seen at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
“He’s just a little tired,” said Leigh Pearson, with Vernon Search and Rescue, adding that temperatures dropped overnight.
“He has been delivered back to his family and everyone is happy.”
The man was out with a friend checking out salt-licks for cattle Tuesday. It’s believed he is familiar with the area because he has been going there for about 10 years.
The friend returned to the vehicle at the scheduled meet-up time, but the man did not return.
The RCMP was contacted and Vernon Search and Rescue was requested to provide assistance just after 5 p.m.
The search, which included the RCMP, continued until 3 a.m. Wednesday and then resumed at 6:30 a.m.
The man was located 600 metres from where he had last been seen. “It’s a pretty rugged area and it’s hard to maneuver around,” said Pearson of the geography.
