Growers Supply Co. contemplates delivery service to Keremeos

Keremeos farmers were distraught when the local Growers Supply closed in November

Farmers in Keremeos who were distraught by the closure of the village’s Growers Supply Company may soon have another option.

Growers Supply Co. is currently deliberating options to fill the void left when the Keremeos location closed. One of options being considered is a delivery service from Oliver to Keremeos.

Farmers like Mohinder Dhaliwal, owner of A&M Orchards, were shaken by the news that Keremeos’ Growers Supply Co. would shut down in November.

Dhaliwal and other farmers in the Keremeos area said the closure left them with no other option than to drive to Oliver or Penticton to buy supplies for their businesses — a trip that is not only time consuming but also costly and even dangerous in the winter.

“It’s a big problem… right now I can drive here and get what I need in five minutes, a trip to Penticton could take over two hours depending on traffic and weather,” Dhaliwal said when the store announced its closure. “It’s a lot of time and money… without this farming will be very tough.”

Growers Supply head office in Kelowna is currently discussing the possibility of a delivery service but can’t yet confirm the news.

After several calls to Growers Supply Co. an employee from the Kelowna head office said they are considering several options for Keremeos right now and the delivery service may or may not happen.
