A new Habitat for Humanity duplex will break ground in Saanich on June 29. Council gave final reading to a development permit for the proposal on Monday night.

The home, expected to be complete by December, will house two low-income families on Ker Avenue, adjacent to Tillicum Centre.

Yolanda Meijer, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Victoria says her group is still in the process of selecting families to purchase the two homes.

Future residents must commit to a minimum of 500 “sweat equity” hours working on habitat projects.

The property on Ker was sold by the province to Habitat for Humanity for $10.
