Nominations have closed for the Haisla Nation council elections with a long list seeking one of the ten councillor spots and a straight fight for chief councillor.
The match-up for the top spot is between two sitting councillors, Ellis Ross and Gerald Amos.
In the 2009 election Ross polled 303 votes to Amos’ 228.
Dolores Pollard, the current chief councillor, is not seeking re-election.
Amos also has his name down as one of the 30 candidates for councillor.
Others include sitting councillors Henry (Hank) Amos, Brenda Duncan, Alex Grant Sr., Godfrey Grant, Margaret Grant, Keith Nyce, Kevin Stewart and Sylvia Woods.
Challengers are Morris Amos, Renzo Furlanetto, Clifford Grant Jr., Lindsay Grant, Willard Grant, Paul Gray, Lucille Harms, Michael Morrison, Nancy Grace Nyce, Kevin L Paul, Melanie Ridsdale, Micheal Robinson, Joanne Ross, Russell Ross Jr., Patricia Starr, Eugene Stewart, Charles Wilson, Steve Wilson (the four-term chief councillor who was defeated by Dolores Pollard in 2009), Deborah Wilson-Green and Shane Wilson.
Polling day is Monday, June 6 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. The count will begin at 9:30 p.m.
Votes can be cast at the Haisla Recreation Centre, Post Office, Haisla administration office and Haisla Health Centre.
