Handgun and heroin found during search

A handgun and drugs were found on a man who was stopped by police in downtown Maple Ridge on Wednesday.

Ridge Meadow RCMP’s Street Enforcement Unit arrested  the 29-year-old Maple Ridge resident on 226th Street for driving while prohibited.

During a search, officers found what they believed  was 17 grams of heroin and a gun.

He was also wearing body armour.

The man was found in violation of  a court order that prohibits him from possessing a firearm for life and is bound by a current bail condition prohibiting him from possessing any controlled substances.

The man was held in custody overnight for a court appearance Thursday.

Police are recommending charges of possession of a firearm, a controlled substance, and driving while prohibited.

 

Breach

A man wanted by police was found in possession of marijuana on Monday.

The 30-year-old was stopped on 228th Street in Maple Ridge.

Police said he was found in violation of several bail conditions that prohibited him from possessing drugs and prevented him from being in a one-block radius of the property he was found on.

The man was held in custody overnight for a  court appearance on Tuesday.

 

Car crash

A 25-year-old Surrey man crashed his car into a pole Tuesday evening in west Maple Ridge.

The car hit a lamp post on Golden Ears Way at 203rd Street and flipped into a nearby ditch.

Paramedics with the B.C. Ambulance Service took the man to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Charges of driving without a valid driver’s license and for driving without due care and attention are being recommended.
