Among Monday’s agenda items, Harrison Hot Springs Village Council approved village staff writing a letter of support for a letter from the city of Victoria, calling on the government for aid for laid-off tourism and hopsitality workers.
So far this season, Mayor Leo Facio said Harrison has seen no COVID-unsafe parties similar to those seen in Vancouver and other metropolitan areas. Echoing his March 30 message released before the Easter long weekend, Facio encouraged villagers to continue practicing good hygeine, avoiding non-essential travel and wearing masks when approporate.
He suggested those who are uncomfortable navigating visitors and have difficult maintaining social distancing to go out early in the morning or in the evening when the Harrison Lake area is typically less crowded.

Council voted 4-1 to approve three readings of a bylaw regarding property tax rates for the village, with Coun. Ray Hooper opposing. The village has budgeted roughly $2.4 million in property taxes across three sectors (residential, business and recreation/non-profit) for 2021. This is an increase of 4.4 per cent from last year.
