Harrison, Seabird advance flood watches

Residents encouraged to have 'grab n go' kit

  • May. 17, 2018 12:00 a.m.

Seabird Island has reached a stage two flood watch, asking residents to ‘be aware, shop for and prepare’ as water levels continue to rise and are expected to reach bank full. A report from the band states that minimal localized flooding is expected and evacuation is unlikely with the exception of some homes on the river.

Still, all residents are encouraged to have a ‘grab ‘n go’ kit with vital necessity items like drinking water, warm clothing and food.

The band asked that residents limit water use to decrease flow into the sewer systems and fields.

Harrison at level one emergency operations centre

The Village of Harrison has activated a level one emergency operations centre (EOC) to monitor water levels in Harrison Lake and the Miami River as water continues to rise around the Fraser Valley.

A level one EOC is the lowest of three possible activation levels and ensures resources are ready to go if action becomes necessary.

Harrison’s flood protection plan includes flood pumps in the Miami and a number of aqua dams in the Village.
